Summertime in York means walls to walk, festivals to enjoy, museums to explore and food to savour. It also means summer holiday season, and there’s plenty of fun activities to fill those long and light days with the family. The Great Yorkshire Fringe is just around the corner, kids can get crafty at York Minster, there’s interactive discovery at the new Viking: Rediscover the Legend exhibition at the Yorkshire Museum and so much more.
The Great Yorkshire Fringe
The city becomes a stage during the Great Yorkshire Fringe, as pop-up venues hosting the best in comedy, theatre and music are sprinkled across the city. This year you can expect the unexpected, with music, cabaret, magic and family entertainment in a variety of fun and peculiar venues. There’s gourmet street-food for when you’re peckish, plus craft beer and wine bars to add to the festival flavour.
The Rise at the Grand Hotel & Spa
For a dining experience with a difference, immerse yourself in The Rise – the latest tasting venture from The Grand Hotel & Spa. Tuck into a flavoursome feast of delicious sharing dishes from award-winning chef Craig Atchinson, who takes inspiration from British classics. Once you’re fed and full, relax and enjoy live music with friends and a choice of local beers, ales, hand-selected wine or signature cocktails.
Explore Beyond York
Adventure beyond the city to discover national parks, countryside and coast. Our enchanting region is home to the North York Moors where you can step aboard the North York Moors Railway for a ride through rolling hills, the picturesque market-town of Helmsley where you can get up close to Birds of Prey and the York Maze which is now open for a summer season of a-maze-ing fun.
